Wings of Light
A Station of Memory and Rebirth
Seen between Manhattan towers, the Oculus appeared like a white bird opening its wings, and the repeating steel ribs transformed a transportation hub into a civic monument; closer views revealed how structure, glazing, and daylight work together, while the soaring hall drew my eyes toward the operable skylight and made commuters part of a moving performance.
Walking along the upper concourse, I felt the building balance symbolism with daily use: its luminous ribs framed the sky, guided passengers toward trains and shops, and carried light deep below street level; what moved me most was not only the spectacular form, but the way Calatrava joined memory, rebirth, engineering, and circulation, proving that a station can become a public place for reflection.
