A Wooden Bookseat for Shared Relationships

 

Balance in Reading is a solid-wood urban bookseat made through CNC cutting, transforming the image of a seesaw into a place for reading, resting, and sharing books. The design responds to the spirit of the “Beautiful Relationship” bookseat project, which encouraged people to donate, read, and exchange books in public green spaces, creating connections among people, books, and the environment.

 

The curved wooden form suggests balance: between movement and stillness, body and book, individual reading and social exchange. CNC processing allows the wood components to be accurately cut, assembled, and repeated, while preserving the warmth of natural material. Integrated book slots and planting areas turn the seat into more than furniture; it becomes a small public landscape. Through reading, resting, and sharing, the work invites people to rebuild a gentle relationship with the city.

 

以閱讀串起人與城市的書席

 

「平衡關係」以翹翹板為造型意象，使用實木材質，並透過 CNC 切割加工製作，將公共座椅、書籍交換與植栽景觀整合成一件城市書席。設計呼應「美好關係」書席計畫的精神，該計畫曾在城市公園綠地設置書席，鼓勵民眾捐書、閱讀與交換書，讓人與人、人與書、人與環境產生新的連結。

 

整體曲線像一座被放大的木質翹翹板，象徵生活中的平衡：工作與休息的平衡、閱讀與交流的平衡、個人獨處與公共分享的平衡。實木帶來溫潤觸感，CNC 加工則讓弧形結構、層板線條與組裝細節更精準。兩端設置書本與植栽，使書席不只是坐下的地方，也成為傳遞知識、分享故事與停留片刻的城市節點。它以簡單而親切的形式，讓閱讀重新回到日常公共生活之中。
