Circular Cannelé: A Stool Baked from Recycled PE
“Tabouret cannelé,” also known as the Lulu Stool, is inspired by the soft ridges and charming form of the French pastry cannelé. In collaboration with Gebreit’s recycled PE pipe material and designer Han Shih-Kuo, the project transforms construction leftovers into a playful and functional household object. Made with 50% recycled material and designed to be 100% recyclable, the stool gives discarded industrial resources a second life. Through cutting, granulating, molding, and finishing, black PE pipe scraps are reborn as colorful, stackable furniture. Each batch of recycled material creates different tones and speckled textures, making every stool visually unique. The design turns sustainability into something approachable, warm, and delightful, showing that circular design can be both practical and emotionally engaging.
