This screen installation is created through the dialogue between Vincent Fang’s lyrics for Blue and White Porcelain and the structural design of Guo Xia-Yi. The work transforms a familiar piece of lyrical writing into a spatial object, allowing words, craftsmanship, and contemporary design to coexist within one artistic installation.
The lyrics of Blue and White Porcelain carry poetic images of misty rain, sky-blue glaze, porcelain surfaces, waiting, memory, and restrained emotion. In this artwork, those images are no longer experienced only through music or language. They are rewritten across the screen surface, becoming a visual rhythm that can be read, approached, and experienced physically.
The screen itself refers to a traditional object in Eastern interiors. Historically, a screen divides space, softens boundaries, and creates a sense of privacy. This installation preserves that cultural meaning while reinterpreting the screen as a contemporary spatial sculpture. As viewers move around it, the words shift with distance, light, and angle. The dense and loose arrangement of characters creates layers of visibility, turning written language into atmosphere.
Guo Xia-Yi’s metal structure gives the work a clear architectural presence. The curved frame and tubular construction provide stability while suggesting movement and openness. Its rounded form echoes the softness of porcelain vessels, while the exposed metal details introduce a modern, industrial quality. This contrast between delicate lyrics and structural clarity becomes the central tension of the piece.
Rather than presenting the song as a flat text, the installation allows the lyrics to unfold in space. The repeated characters resemble layers of glaze, traces of memory, and fragments of time. Through the meeting of popular music, calligraphic expression, traditional screen culture, and contemporary fabrication, the work invites viewers to experience Blue and White Porcelain not only as a song, but as a poetic environment shaped by light, material, and movement.
