City of Dental Light: A Clean Corner Interface
The exterior renovation of the Kaohsiung Dental Building transforms an existing urban corner building into a clean, bright, and recognizable medical façade. Based on the provided images, the design does not completely replace the original building structure. Instead, it adds a new architectural skin through white panels, expanded metal mesh, transparent display areas, and illuminated outlines. This strategy gives the old building a new identity while keeping its relationship with the surrounding street.
The main visual language is based on whiteness and lightness. White is strongly connected with dental care, cleanliness, precision, and trust. The use of expanded metal mesh creates a semi-transparent layer over the façade. During the day, this mesh softens the building surface and reduces visual noise from the busy commercial street. At night, lighting behind and around the mesh turns the lower part of the building into a glowing object, making it visible and memorable from the road.
The stepped outline on the façade is an important design feature. It can be read as a simplified city skyline, but it also suggests the rhythm of teeth. Through this gesture, the dental theme becomes part of the architecture itself, rather than appearing only as signage. The large dental whitening billboard, glass display areas, and open entrances help connect the clinic with pedestrians and street life.
The renovation also improves the building’s commercial presence. The original façade appears ordinary and quiet, while the new design creates a stronger brand image and a more welcoming atmosphere. The building becomes less like a closed medical facility and more like a clear, safe, and approachable urban healthcare space.
Overall, the project uses façade renewal as a way to combine medical professionalism, brand communication, and urban visibility. Through mesh, light, white surfaces, and graphic outlines, the Kaohsiung Dental Building becomes a clean and luminous landmark at the city corner.
